First Swim Lesson Guide

Make Your First Lesson a Splash

Everything you need to know to feel confident, prepared, and excited for your child’s first swim lesson.

What to Bring: Pack Like a Pro

To make your first lesson go smoothly, here’s what you’ll want to bring:

Need help finding the perfect swimwear?

We’re proud to partner with RuffleButts, makers of adorable, functional, and parent-loved swimwear designed just for kids. Their swimsuits meet our lesson guidelines, and they’re built for comfort, play, and pool safety.

What Happens When you Arrive?

Here’s What to Expect:

1. Check In at the Front Desk

Our friendly team will greet you and get your swimmer checked in.

2. Changing Areas Available

You're welcome to use our designated changing areas and restrooms before class begins.

3. Pool Time!

Team members will guide you and your child to the right teaching station.

4. Watch and Encourage

We have an open deck policy so you can watch lessons up close if you’d like. For Level 2 classes, at least one parent or guardian is required to remain on deck during the entire class. For all other levels, parents are welcome to watch from the observation area or from the deck.

5. Celebrate Progress

At the end of each lesson, teachers guide swimmers through a brief “show-off” where they demonstrate the skills they worked on in class. It’s a special moment designed for parents to observe their child’s growth and celebrate their achievements, big or small, with pride.

Classes are 30 minutes long. Please arrive 10–15 minutes early to allow for check-in and transitions.

Is Your Swimmer Potty Trained?

Children who are under 3 years old must wear two reusable swim pants during lessons. Disposable swim diapers and plastic pants are not permitted. This rule helps us keep the water clean and avoid closures due to accidents.

Your child’s first swim lesson at King’s Swim Academy is an exciting milestone, and we want families to feel prepared, confident, and welcomed from the moment they arrive. Our First Swim Lesson Guide is designed to help you know exactly what to expect, what to bring, and how to support your swimmer so their introduction to the water feels safe and positive. Whether your child is a baby starting parent and child classes or an older beginner gaining early independence, our goal is to make the experience simple and reassuring for both parents and kids.

When you arrive for your first lesson, our team will greet you, help you get settled, and guide you to the pool deck or viewing area. Warm water, small class sizes, and friendly instructors help ease nerves and create a calm space where swimmers can explore new skills at their own pace. Many children feel more comfortable when they know the routine, so we keep classes consistent from week to week with clear cues, gentle practice, and lots of encouragement.

Parents often wonder what to bring, and it’s simple. We recommend a snug swimsuit, goggles if your child uses them, and a towel. Swim diapers are required for all children who are not fully potty trained. Our school provides clean changing areas, easy viewing spaces, and a welcoming environment that supports families throughout the visit.

The first lesson focuses on building comfort, learning basic safety habits, and helping swimmers get familiar with their instructor. Progress looks different for every child, and that’s expected. Some children jump right in while others need time to warm up. Our instructors understand both and adjust to each swimmer’s needs.

King’s Swim Academy is here to make your family’s first swim lesson a positive start to a lifelong skill. We can’t wait to welcome you to the pool.
